I think back to the time when I was younger and full of energy for the holidays. Now it takes energy to find some in dealing with the holidays. Everywhere we look advertisement selling something. I don’t have a problem with advertisement but when they take the Christ out of Christmas it just goes to show where the world is going. We could all boycott certain companies for selling holiday trees instead of Christmas trees, or holiday cookies instead of Christmas cookies. And guess which cookie Santa Clause would pick? The point is we could get our feathers all ruffled up in all this but in doing so we are loosing the spirit ourselves of the meaning for this season. That’s the Birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He came so that we may have life and have it more abundantly. Are we living an abundant life if we are caught up in the commercial status of Christmas. As a child I can remember the large Christmas gatherings of family and fellowship. Of course the tearing open of the unknown was important, as it is for any child. But the real happiness and joy came from seeing family and friends that you only get a chance to see at such and event. My family came from a Jewish heritage. No one ever complained about the trees, the manger with baby Jesus in it. The spirit lies in your heart. The joy comes from knowing we have a blessed life. Why do we let the society take something from us that Jesus never intended them to do. What I want to say is, don’t get caught up in all the commercial standards of Christmas. Spend this Christmas knowing that Jesus is alive in you, and hopefully it will rub off on every one else. But don’t spend your energy getting upset. If we could spend that energy toward making Christmas in your home what it was meant to be then I bet Christ would be pleased. I’m not saying we cant voice our opinion but don’t be the example of something we would be ashamed of other Christians doing. Start a tradition in your own family that can be passed down to remember the miracle of Christmas. In my house we always set up the Nativity set the day after Thanks Giving, but we don’t but Baby Jesus in the manger yet, we do this first thing Christmas morning after a Christmas devotion. May God bless you this holiday season and remember the reason for the season.
