What a waste
Friday 16 January 2009 US Airlines Flight 1549 heads from LaGuardia to Charlotte with 100 passengers and 5 Crew members. At 10:36 EST Flight 1549 has something happen that would change peoples lives forever. A Flock of Geese have flown into the engines and both engines go out. Captain Sully has his hands full but the training and experience and hours of flying skills takes over in his calm demeanor.
But what do you think is going through the minds of the passengers at this moment? I heard one of the passengers and some of the others tell their stories and this one gentleman says it this way. After you hear the engines go out and the total silence of a plane take effect you begin think a lot very quickly. He stated that as the plane turned towards the Hudson River his whole life began to open up. Every Second seemed like eternity and the water was getting closer and closer. The crew gave very simple and directive orders. The gentleman said something that caught my attention. He said that he began to think about all the things he wanted to make right with people. He though about his children growing up without him. He was wondering about how he could have made mends with the people he hurt in his life. Had he lived a life that impacted others. did he do his best foe someone else. Or did he waste so much time doing stuff that didn't matter and was selfishly spent. He though about how could he live and heal all the wounds he might have caused with his careless acts of passing opportunities to help someone. Notice he was not checking off a bucket list, he was not worried about if he had ever jumped out of a plane, raced a race car, gone shark diving or even winning the lottery. He was concerned more about how he impacted the lives of others. I believe this is a lesson and shows the true design of God. God never intended us to live for ourselves. God designed us to live and love others as he Loves us. And at the moment this gentleman hears the three most frightening words, BRACE FOR IMPACT! he begins to think of how precious life is and how much time he wasted on himself. How much time have you wasted on things that really don't matter? I know I have wasted a ton of time. Time on Face Book, playing Clash of Clans, watching TV etc. None of this really matters and we live in a self gratifying society where its all about me, me, me. Can you think about the same things this passenger thought about without your life in jeopardy or flashing before your eyes? Can you make a wrong right with someone today? What about forgetting being right all the time and just making someone else happy? Are you living knowing you are making a difference to someone you don't even know. There is a quote that I love by Bill Wilson and he says "To the World you may be one person but to one person You may be the world" I love this and I hope that I can live a life that impacts others and love the way God does. Putting ourselves to the side long enough takes effort but when that time comes when we are faced with life and death, maybe we will be at ease and the words we hear from our father is "Well done". 1 Corinthians 4:5
So
don’t make judgments about anyone ahead of time—before the Lord
returns. For he will bring our darkest secrets to light and will reveal
our private motives. Then God will give to each one whatever praise is
due.
