Come and follow me and I will make you fishers of men. Mark 1:17
I can go anywhere at any time and Boone will drop whatever he is doing and follow me like a shadow I cant get rid of. Boone is my four legged son. I can get up and go get a drink and there he is. I can get up and switch chairs and there he is. I can get up and go to the boys room and yup, there he is. He will follow me every where that I go. He will drop what he is just to be close to me. He will go out of his way to be there. He will follow me no matter what I am doing. He doesn’t expect anything in return. He loves me no matter what and doesn’t expect anything in return. He just wants to be there beside me and follow me all the time. In fact he has separation anxiety if a door or a wall separates us for any length of time. The thing is I love his and I would never trade him for the world. You see we adopted him from another family who didn’t want him. Who wanted nothing to do with him. All I did was love him.
Can you imagine what the first disciples were like. They followed Jesus everywhere. I believe they may have had separation anxiety. They followed Jesus and became close to him. They were normal every day people that I think some just didn’t like. They became some of Jesus’ best friends because they spent a lot of time with him. They knew all his manners and lifestyles to the most of details. They had such an intimate relationship with Him and He enjoyed this. They picked up his prayer habits. He knew the sacrifice they gave to follow him and they didn’t expect anything in return. They just remembered his promise.
Do you think if we were like Boone or like Jesus’ disciples we would be more blessed than ever? We would live in a world that would do anything to help another lost soul. We would leave ten thousand to find that one lost. We would give up a meal to feed someone who hasn’t had one in days. We would spend more time praying and less time running. I truly think the world would be a better place if we would pick up on what it means to drop what we are doing and follow Jesus, to be fishers of men. What are you doing to go fish? How are you compared to Christ’s disciples? What are you doing to draw closer to him and hear His voice? I think I could be like Boone and unconditionally do what ever it takes to be close to Jesus, find him and follow him where ever He takes me.
